Summary
Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome is the most common form of prostatitis syndrome, characterized by pelvic or perineal pain lasting at least three months, as well as urinary and other functional complaints, without bacterial infection or identifiable organic pathology. Due to the heterogeneous and multifactorial nature of the disease, its treatment is multimodal, involving complementary treatment options in addition to pharmacological treatment. Among phytotherapeutic preparations, clinical studies have shown that quercetin and pollen extract-containing preparations are particularly effective in reducing pelvic pain and improving quality of life through their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. In a randomized, placebo-controlled study, pollen extract (e.g., Pollstimol) significantly improved the NIH-CPSI total score, primarily in the pain and quality-of-life subdomains, with good tolerability; thus supporting its role as a long-term complementary therapeutic option in chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome.
