Summary
Objective: Ovarian cysts can develop at any stage of life, but they are most common in fertile women. Their presence is usually revealed during routine gynaecological examination. They rarely appear before puberty. Most of the time they are asymptomatic, however, in some cases they can reach a significant size and thus symptoms may occur. Symptoms can include lower abdominal pain, intermittent vaginal bleeding, intestinal motility disorder, and even urological complaints may appear.
Case report: We present a case of a young female patient with lower abdominal pain. The ultrasound image of the large (12 cm) dermoid ovarian cyst causing her pain gave the impression of a full bladder and caused diagnostic and therapeutic challenge.
Conclusion: Faced with difficult-to-characterize lower urinary tract symptoms in women, we must think about the presence of ovarian cyst.
