Summary
Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) can be observed in several diseases, such as chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS), prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). When choosing a treatment, the UPOINT (urinary, psychosocial, organ specific, infectious, neurological/systemic and tenderness of skeletal muscles) system can be useful. In the treatment of LUTS, there is an increasing use of non-antibiotic and NSAID- (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) based therapies, phytotherapeutics, the most complex of which is the topical Proxelan rectal suppository. Proxelan’s complex action not only reduces pain but also improves urinary parameters and can be used in long term without significant side effects.
