Summary
Stress urinary incontinence is the most prevalent type of incontinence type among females. It is caused by the impaired function and damage of the structures responsible for urethral support and closure. The aim of the diagnostic workup moreover to identify the sign of stress urinary incontinence is to evaluate any potential complicating factors involving the structural changes or malfunction of lower urinary tract and pelvic organs. If the first line conservative treatment fails to cease the symptoms of incontinence, a handful of surgical options are available to choose from. Mid-urethral sling procedures represent the first-choice procedure of surgical management. Both the retropubic (TVT) and transobturator (TOT) approach has been proved to be efficacious and safe by high quality evidence of robust literature.
